Why do I need to replace my missing teeth?

When a tooth is lost we need to consider the impact this may have on your overall oral health

Adjacent teeth may move and this may cause:

  • Increased risk of gum disease
  • Disruption to your bite
  • Gaps opening up between the front teeth

At Sara Couch & Associates we can suggest appropriate treatments to address these issues.

I want a solution to my tooth loss that doesn’t involve dentures what are my options?

Fixed options for the replacement of missing teeth include:

  • Conventional bridges
  • Bonded bridges
  • Dental implants

At Sara Couch & Associates we will be happy to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the various options in your particular situation.

I have an old metal filling, can I have it replaced?

Amalgam fillings may have served you very well, however they do have their drawbacks:

  • They are unaesthetic
  • They do not bond to the tooth
  • They do not restore the strength of the tooth
  • Teeth frequently fracture around old amalgams

Modern dental materials, including composite resin and bonded ceramics, can provide you with an aesthetic and highly functional alternative if you are experiencing fractures or are unhappy with the look of your old amalgam fillings

What are the symptoms of gum disease?

Quite often there are few, if any, obvious symptoms of gum disease until it becomes advanced.

Sometimes you may notice some gum bleeding or bad breath but it easy to overlook these things.

In the late stages of the disease there will be recession of the gums and teeth may become loose. At this stage the problem may be difficult to treat and teeth will be lost.

For this reason it is very important that regular checks for gum disease are carried out by your dentist.

How can I get a beautiful smile without invasive treatment?

Sometimes bleaching will be all that is needed. If discoloured fillings are present it is relatively easy to replace these.

Veneers can also be used to mask discoloured teeth and make crooked teeth appear straighter.

It may be easier than you think to enhance your tired looking smile

When should I bring my child in for their first dental appointment?

We definitely like to see children between the ages of two and three.

Our aim is to create a fun and happy experience for the child which will lead to a positive attitude towards future dental visits.

A healthy primary dentition is essential for speaking, eating and providing the framework into which the permanent teeth erupt.
